06-12-10 :: Rich DeLong, III, continued to stretch his division point lead in the Vista Paint Super Stock division. With his second place finish, he is on top of the point standings by 22 points over second place, Bryan Harrell.

Kaylee is the DRI Fan Of The Week. It was an easy choice this week. All decked out in the team colors viagra just check out that shirt — #84 and “Yay Rich” written on it! Plus we think she’s pretty cute! Good job Kaylee … you’re the #1 fan of the week.

Rich DeLong III and viagra #84 team dominated the Super Stock division Saturday at Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, setting fast time in both practice sessions, qualifying on the pole, and then topping it all off with the 4th race win of the season.

With the win, the Freckled Hound.com, LugNutzz.com, 10,000 RPM, Cleaning Plus Janitorial, BC Sports Images, Americas Baby Cancer Foundation, Bill Loe Race Engines, Ron’s Rear Ends #84 Chevy Super Stock leads the division point standings by 22 points through race 5 of the 15-race season.

Super Stock Division Point Standings (through 5th place):

<a href=”http://delongracinginc.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/hbrich.jpg”>The #84 Super Stock team couldn’t do much better for Rich Jr’s birthday Saturday night, 04/17/10. Rich DeLong III set fast time and won the 30-lap main event feature. This is the second week in a row for fast time AND feature wins. The #84 Super Stock now has 3 main event wins in as many races and is currently leading the point standings by 8 points.

Brandon Toy ran his second race in the #75 DeLong Racing, Inc., King Taco Super Truck. All painted and lettered, the truck was ready for racing! Brandon is a rookie in the Super Truck division this year after running a Legend car last year. Qualifying went well, but during the race the truck set-up was way too loose. Brandon had his hands full and finished a very impressive 10th place in the 18-truck field.

In the #64 Super Stock again this week was Jason DeLong. With no mechanical failure this week, Jason ran the full race and finished 8th.

Rich DeLong III and the #84 Super Stock team made it two in row Saturday night, April 3, 2010, at Irwindale Speedway. RD3 set fast time and went on to win the 35-lap feature. With two wins in as many races, Rich DeLong III has a 6-point lead in the Super Stock point standings.

Jason DeLong also made his debut in the #64 car and finished the main event in 11th place.

Nice job Team DRI!

Hmmmmm ….. wonder if they’ll make Mr. Blackwell’s Best-Dressed or Worst-Dressed list.

After the hard work by Amanda, Cody, Darren, Debbie, Dennis, Jason, Nicole, Phil, Rich Jr., Steve, and I, we were ready to race. We finished the car Thursday night and loaded it up for testing on Friday. Jason, Amanda, Nicole, and Michael took the car to the track Friday afternoon where we went through it and did some last minute stuff. Phil checked the transmission, while Jason and I mounted a piece of lead. Amanda hopped inside “Trish” and cleaned the windows and dash. Steve Cheek checked the tires and Michael taped up the radiator shroud. We got everything ready to go and Darren Cheek, my new crew chief for 2010, sent me out on the track. With my Dad’s advice and his knowledge of super stock cars, I knew we would be in good shape. We worked on the car all night, trying different shock combinations along with different driving styles. Darren coached me all night, we made a lot of good changes and got the car very consistent for the long run. We had a few hiccups here and there, but overall everything went really well and I was confident we would have a good day Saturday.

Saturday rolled around and we were off to the track. Phil, Dennis, and my Dad worked in the morning; so Amanda, Debbie, Nicole, Michael, and I met them at the track, along with Cody, Darren, Jason, Steve Cheek, and my spotter Steve Mason. We unloaded the car and went right to tech to get that out of the way. After tech, I went and got two new spare tires, while Cody got the race tires branded. After the drivers meeting, I went on track for practice. The car was quick and we were .020 off of quick time, but were more consistent and quicker over the long run. The second run we got some more speed, but were still 2nd on the board behind two-time champion Bryan Harrell.

Up next was qualifying. My team and I all agreed that even if we didn’t set fast time, we would be good for the race. We qualified 2nd, but would start 6th due to the invert. The team and I talked strategies and plans and figured out everything we needed to do for the race. After spending all day at the track, we were cut down to 15 laps because of a 100 lap Super Late Model Race. Darren and Steve, my crew chief and tire specialist, decided they would throw something at the car and set us up for a 15 lap trophy dash style sprint.

From the drop of the green, I knew the car would be quick and I made my way from 6th to 2nd in just 2 laps thanks to great spotting and great teamwork overall. Throughout the race the car faded a little at a time, which we had guessed it would do and we finished the race in 2nd position, which was a good start to the season. However, in post-race tech inspection, the winner was unfortunately disqualified, giving the DeLong Racing #84 Super Stock team the victory and the points lead. It was a great night for myself, my team, and my family. I am so happy to be able to share these experiences with them. I cant wait for this weekend when we return to the track. We have a lot of work to do to make the car even better, but I’m so proud of the effort my team put in this weekend and I am truly blessed to be a part of this organization.

After a long off season that saw the #84 Super Stock, aka “Trish” cooped up in the trailer, we finally got to test again. The car sat in the trailer since the BabyCancer.Org Christmas Party because of the cold weather here at home. We pulled the car out and began preparing it, going through the car part by part. Some things we checked and changed, others we thought would be fine. Cody Fisher, last years Super Stock Rookie of the Year in the #64 FreckledHound.Com Chevy came over to help me work on Trish. Rich Jr, the boss, took a step back and watched us preform work on the car. We started by pulling the motor, clutch, and transmission so we could make sure everything was in good shape. The motor was freshened by Bill Loe Race Engines. We put a new clutch disc in and Cody, my dad, and I dropped the motor back in and put it all back together. My little sister Nicole did the parts chasing for us, and only got one wrong thing; while my girlfriend, Amanda, BBQ-ed lunch for everyone.

Dennis “The Toolmater” McDonald came up the following weekend and we took everything out of the trailer and scrubbed the floors and reorganized it all for the new season. Cody Fisher came back up to help and we worked on the brake system of the car, which consisted of changing the bearings and seals, and putting new brake pads and rotors on the front and rear the the #84 machine. The last step was installing the clutch and transmission, which Pops and I did during the week. Everything went together smoothly and we were set to practice.

We arrived at the track to shake down Trish and make sure she wouldn’t have any problems. The first session I found out what the spoiler change would do to my car, and it did everything they wanted; it slowed me down and took away the downforce I had last year. I had a decent run and went off into turn one and before I knew it I was spinning backwards. Trish stayed out of the wall and I brought it in to get ready for next session. The next time out the car was running pretty good, only two laps in when there was a caution for a crash. Gary Read had lost the grip on the rear like I had and he hit the wall. Under caution the car started filling up with smoke and Cody, my spotter for the day, said to bring it in so we could check it out. I told him I saw the smoke and was planning on coming in and pulled off immediately. Back in the pits we found one of the hoses with a big crack in it and power steering fluid everywhere. Dennis and Amanda cleaned the car while my dad built a new hose. We put the hose on and filled it back with power steering fluid.

I went on track one more time and had some power steering issues. The pump kept cutting in and out so it was hard to steer consistently and I decided I didn’t want to put Trish in that kind of jeopardy so I parked it. The team and I decided the practice was not worth destroying a car and we loaded up and called it a day. The practice was a bit of luck for us, because those mechanical issues would have happened opening night, but instead they happened in practice so no harm, no foul.
